Description:

Inuit Studies emphasizes more traditional aspects of language and culture that are being lost in the modern world and explores these in relation to the contemporary situation of the Inuit. The social, economic and political conditions of the Inuit will also be studied, and will lead to an increased awareness of unique and important aspects of Inuit language and culture. The majority of courses in Inuit Studies are delivered in Inuktitut. Students successfully completing this option will be fully fluent and literate in Inuktitut and will have syllabic keyboarding skills.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent or pass the appropriate Arctic College placement exams with acceptable scores and demonstrate both oral and written fluency in English and Inuktitut.
Application Notes : Applicants should also submit a letter of interest and complete the NAC Entrance Assessment.

Students will be required to write an English/Inuktitut language proficiency test. Personal suitability will be assessed through an interview with program personnel. Studenst should also have oral fluency in Inuktitut and English.
