This course considers fundamental and applied aspects of microbiology and molecular biology. Emphasis is placed on the environmental, industrial, clinical and research applications of microorganisms and the application of molecular techniques, with a particular focus on DNA technology. Typical areas of study include biomolecules, cells and microorganisms, genetics, environmental techniques and applications in molecular biology, and environmental microbiology. Aspects of the course emphasise the application of nucleic acid technology within biotechnological, medical and environmental microbiology. Your final year gives you the opportunity to specialise in areas such as environmental microbiology and health, agricultural applications of microbiology, molecular conservation genetics, genetics and disease as well as an independent research project. |
