Physiological Sciences: Respiratory and Sleep Physiology, Cardiac Physiology, Neurophysiology; Life Sciences: Blood Sciences, Cellular Sciences, Genetic Sciences, Infection Sciences. The programme is a required professional qualification if you wish to practise as a healthcare science practitioner (clinical physiologist). Specialist routes offered are in cardiac physiology, neuro-physiology, and respiratory and sleep physiology. This degree is accredited by the National School of Healthcare Science and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists. You will specialise in physiological sciences (clinical physiology) and team up with other health professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. On completion, you will gain the professional qualification required for registration as a healthcare science practitioner (clinical physiologist) working in the NHS or private sector. Knowledge, clinical training and skills required for professional practice are attained across all three years of the programme. You will complete a total of 50 weeks on assessed, work-based clinical placements during your degree. All applicants are required to pass a medical examination and receive vaccinations required for working in medical fields. A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate is required for all students. This will be completed through the University early in the course. This degree programme is not available to overseas applicants. As part of the selection process, shortlisted candidates must attend an interview in person.
