This area will provide Registered Nurses with the skills and knowledge to practice in an acute paediatric and child health settings including school and youth based health. Knowledge and skills will be in accordance with the Australian Confederation of Paediatric and Child Health Nurses Competency Standards for the Specialist Paediatric and Child Health Nurse in conjunction with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Competency Standards for Registered Nurses. Graduates will develop an awareness and understanding of primary health care needs, physical and developmental stages of children, cultural values and diversity of family needs within both the child health setting and acute health paediatric setting for children and young people. The legal and ethical issues associated with providing care for children, young people and their families with vairous health care issues from diverse cultural backgrounds within Australia will be included.
