This area will assist the student to apply an advanced level of knowledge and skills in a rural and remote health care setting. The student will develop an understanding of the economic, political and socio-economic factors which influence the delivery of health care within rural and remote contexts. They will also examine the epidemiology and management of specific health issues prevalent in rural and remote communities and the nursing and collaborative practice approaches required to provide evidence based health care in these settings.
Additionally, the nurse's role in disaster planning within a rural, remote or isolated practice setting will be examined. The legal and ethical constructs governing advanced nursing practice are also analysed.
Clinical teaching and learning skills are also integral components of professional nursing practice. The students will develop skills and knowledge that will prepare them for educational leadership roles within their own specified area of practice; enable the nurse to educate, support and develop their colleagues; promote health education to their clients and support beginning practitioners entering the profession.
