| The MA by Research is a one-year full time or two-year part time course of postgraduate study. Students taking this degree work on a specific project with expert supervision from a member of the History team. This project is written up as a dissertation of 25,000 words. MA by Research students also take part in a regular Graduate Seminar which provides a structured environment for postgraduate study as well as an opportunity for research students to get to know each other, and share ideas and findings. The Graduate Seminar aims to explore various ways of approaching and categorizing research, for example, organizing concepts like gender, class and identity; and investigates sources and approaches including material culture, oral history and memory. It also covers the practical skills required for effective research. To support the regular seminar there are additional specialist sessions delivered by experts who work on specific temporal areas and who use particular methodologies. |

For Canadian residents: A Bachelor degree (Honours) / Baccalaureat de type Honours is required. A minimum of 2.3 on a 4 Point GPA or a 5.2 on a 9 Point GPA is required for most masters courses. A small number of our masters courses require 3.2 on a 4 point GPA or 7.2 on a 9 point GPA. |
