Description:

Employment in this occupational group is projected to increase in the next few years. This is a great time to enter this field because many jobs will become available due to a high level of retiring workers now through 2015. Entry-level positions often provide considerable potential for advancement. Industry sources indicate that self-managed individuals with strong initiative who are willing to continuously learn new skills and upgrade old ones are the most likely candidates for promotion.

Payroll Administrators are specifically concerned with employee pay and benefits. They maintain employee records (for example, attendance and overtime) and use the records to calculate pay and benefit entitlements. They also prepare and check statements of earnings and provide information to employees on payroll matters, benefit plans and collective agreement terms. Once education requirements are met, grads can complete and submit the Application for Certification to receive the Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA).
