The Sprott Shaw College Business Administration Bookkeeping diploma program provides a student with the required knowledge to perform full cycle accounting for a small or medium sized business under the direction of a designated accountant. Sprott Shaw College Business Administration Bookkeeping graduates are able to: accurately record accounting transactions, reconcile General Ledger and bank accounts, create budgets, prepare and analyze standard financial statements, analyze cost behaviours and Return On Investment (ROI), utilze current accounting software applications, record payroll transactions, pay employees and submit government remittances, prepare simple income tax returns, provide basic human resource management, productively use MS Office including Word, Excel and Access, and communicate effectively using various communication channels.
This is a well-paid field with future employment prospects projected to be "above average" with new jobs and openings due to retirement (between now and 2020) remaining high. People planning to work in this field require strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Those who have developed skills in these areas will be better prepared to compete for jobs. With additional experience or training, progression to management positions is possible.
