Students will learn about the ways in which media shape both our understanding of the world, and our perceptions of our place in that world. In the English Language element you will focus on the role played by language in communication whether in face-to-face conversation, in traditional paper-based texts or through digital media. Topics range from style in literary and media texts, the history of the English language, regional varieties of English in Britain and across the world, language and gender, conversation analysis, language and conflict, and language and humour.
