Requirements for Canadian Students

Completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent; Six (6) Grade 12 U or M courses (or equivalent) with a minimum overall average of 70% in six Grade 12 U/M courses, or equivalent. This establishes eligibility for admission; subject to competition, individual programs may establish higher academic averages. TMU receives more applications than spaces available. Meeting minimum averages and/or grades does not guarantee admission. Grade 11 results may be used in the early admission offer process. Offers will stipulate Grade 12 final results that must be achieved. All programs also stipulate specific prerequisite subject requirements. Grades required for admission are determined on the basis of competition each year. Grade 12 U English is required for all programs. The preferred English for all programs is ENG4U/EAE4U and is the required English for Journalism, and the RTA School of Media: Media Production and Sport Media programs. Visit the Programs page to determine if your program(s) of interest has additional subject prerequisite requirements and non-academic requirements.

Requirements for International Students

The following are general admission requirements and are subject to change.

  • Applicants educated outside of Ontario must submit evidence of education equivalent to the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six Grade 12 U or M courses. Please note: we reserve the right to be the final arbiter of what will be accepted on an equivalency basis.
  • It is essential that subject prerequisite requirements and grades for specific programs form part of the academic background of applicants from outside Ontario, especially in the last two years of secondary school studies.
  • Some programs select students on the basis of grades plus non-academic components such as auditions, interviews, portfolios, essays, etc. Visit the Grades-Plus Programs page for a complete list of grades-plus programs, non-academic requirements, submission dates, and procedures. Applications will not be considered complete if these items are not received by noted deadlines.
  • We reserve the right to request proof of English language proficiency, in the form of an acceptable English language test score or alternate documentation, from any applicant or admitted student (regardless of background).

Alternate Program Choices: Applicants wishing to be considered for more than one program at TMU must include all program choices on the applicable OUAC Application Form.
