The Institute was established by Maureen Naddaf Serroul with the goal of assisting in the development of healthy lifestyle habits and positive self esteem, and a commitment to providing the highest level of occupational training in the field of esthetics. Our school is registered with the Nova Scotia Department of Education, the Examining Body of Natural Medicine Practitioners, and the Nova Scotia Cosmetology Association. The Institute is also a member in high standing with the Provincial and National Association of Private Career Colleges.

The school aims to provide the highest level of occupational training in the field of esthetics. Topics include ancient and contemporary methods for promoting holistic health and beauty. Graduates are trained to work in health settings, day spas, wellness centres, resorts, salons, on cruise ships, and to open their own specialized business.

The Maritime Institute provides a residence facility for out of town students. Our in-house residence provides a limited number of nicely decorated, furnished units with adjacent full shower/washroom and laundry facilities. A TV room and large common room/library with fireplace are also available for student use.

Students are accompanied by an instructor to the HRDC office for a days training of job searching the internet and are assisted in completing a professional resume.

Our herbal garden and the surrounding grounds provide a quiet retreat on a sunny day. North Sydney's downtown shopping core and a local mall, as well as restaurants, entertainment, the boardwalk, a gym and the local library are within walking distance of the Institute. Bus service is available to Sydney, where a larger selection of shops, theaters, restaurants and entertainment venues are available.
