Follow Your Compass: Travel Abroad
Pack your bags and gain intercultural experiences that enrich your learning
Picture yourself standing on a beach watching sea lions, or maybe helping to expand an ecotourism business in Jamaica. Studying abroad offers the chance to immerse yourself in a new culture, gain practical experience, and acquire valuable language skills, to say nothing of improving your social skills and building your resume. Not only an enriching educational experience, an international experience is most often a life-changing adventure — a journey of self-discovery and building life-long friendships. There are many international opportunities available, so get ready to go!
International Exchanges
See the world by spending a year or semester abroad in one of Nipissing’s partnership institutions around the globe. From Europe to Asia, the possibilities are endless. Paying only Nipissing tuition and local living expenses helps to uncomplicate the process.
Degree Specific Opportunities
Each degree program may have its own unique opportunities for studying abroad. Students in the Bachelor of Education or nursing programs can complete one of their practicums internationally. If you’re afraid of becoming
homesick, many departments provide shorter trips abroad. Destination possibilities include the Kadoorie Hong Kong animal rights study tour with the Gender Equality and Social Justice Program and a two week trip to the Galapagos Islands where Biology students can study the ecology of this unique habitat, or you can choose your own location for the iLead Business Certificate.
Internships or Volunteering
Gain valuable international work experience through internships or consider volunteering with a non-profit organization to give back globally. For those who want to internationalize their degree without leaving campus, options include volunteering with the International Student Mentor-ship Program to help international students with their transition to Nipissing and/or becoming involved with World University Service of Canada (WUSU).
