The thesis-based Master of Applied Science (M.A.Sc) in Mechanical Engineering is a traditional research-based degree. The program normally takes two years of full-time study, and includes a total of thirty credits, research under the supervision of a faculty member and a thesis. The Master of Applied Science is the recommended course of study for students who may be interested in eventually pursuing a Ph.D.
Students taking their M.A.Sc in Mechanical Engineering can select one of four research areas: Design and Applied Mechanics, Mechatronics and Manufacturing, Thermofluids or Biomedical Engineering.* |

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Applied Science or equivalent, conferred at a recognized institution in North America, as well as relevant prior education in mechanical engineering, with::
A minimum overall average in the B+ range (76% at UBC) in third- and fourth-year courses. Academic standing with at least 12 credits of third- or fourth-year courses in the A grade range (80% or higher at UBC) in the field of study.

Application Notes : | Applicants whose degrees are from a university outside Canada in which English is not the primary language of instruction must present evidence of competency to pursue studies in the English language prior to being extended an offer of admission.

All applicants have to submit transcripts from all past post-secondary study.
