Adaptive Dimension All courses provide enrichment opportunities in the adaptive dimension of each curriculum.
Honours Math 10 A mark of 80% in Math 9 is recommended, or teacher permission. Honours Math 10 covers everything in Math 10 in addition to some enriched topics.
Honours Math 20 A mark of 75% in Honours Math 10 is recommended, or teacher permission. This course covers all of Math 20 in addition to some enriched topics.
Honours Math A30 A mark of 75% in Honours Math 20 is recommended, or teacher permission. This course covers the same topics as Math A30. There is more depth in the study of some of the concepts as well as an introduction and discussion of topics in pre-calculus.
Honours Math B30 Prerequisite: Honours Math A30 A mark of 75% in Honours Math A 30 is recommended, or teacher permission. This course covers the same concepts as Math B30 in more detail. Math B30 also introduces some topics in pre-calculus.
Honours Math C30 Prerequisite: Honours Math B30 A mark of 75% in Honours Math B30 is recommended, or teacher permission. The course covers the same topics as Math C30 with some of the concepts in more depth; it also has some topics in pre-calculus.
Calculus 30 Prerequisite: Math C30 This course includes the study of limits, differentiation, integration, maxima and minima, area and related rates.
Honours Calculus 30 Prerequisite: Math C30 A mark of 75% in Honours Math C30 is recommended, or teacher permission. This course includes topics in Calculus 30 but covers them in greater depth and scope.
Music - Performance Classes To be eligible for a performance class credit, attendance must be 90% or better.
Band 10/20/30 - (Non-Semestered) Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor. Students with reasonable proficiency on a band instrument will be considered. Concert band rehearses twice a week at lunch hour, with performances at various times throughout the year. Evaluation will be based on attendance, active participation, ability to play band music, and attitude during rehearsals and concerts.
Choral 10/20/30 - (Non-Semestered) Previous vocal experience is not necessary. Choral is for both male and female singers. Concert choir rehearses twice a week on alternate days from band. There are various singing engagements and performances throughout the year. Evaluation will be based on attendance, active participation, knowledge of vocal parts, and attitude during rehearsals and performance.
Advanced Placement Sheldon-Williams is an approved Advanced Placement© (AP) site. AP examinations are internationally recognized and provide an opportunity for high school students to demonstrate their ability to handle university level courses in a variety of disciplines. AP standing can lead to the granting of university credits and early entrance privileges in over 2800 universities and colleges in North America, and in additional educational institutions in Europe.
Students of exceptional ability in any subject area should select honours courses where available. Students with marks in the top quarter of the student population may wish to meet with the vice-principal or guidance counselor to discuss opportunities available through Advanced Placement.
Advanced Placement English Students wishing to challenge the Advanced Placement Exam in English Literature and Composition at the end of Grade 12 should take E.L.A. ACl0, and E.L.A. CW20 or J20.
Advanced Placement Visual Art Advanced Placement in Art is offered at Sheldon-Williams. In order to complete the large number of assignments it is recommended that students start in grade ten. Students must register with the permission of an art teacher. |
