This course emphasizes the language to complement the strong technical skills of internationally trained health professionals. A focus on interpersonal functions such as asking for and providing information, making requests, seeking clarification, and giving clear explanations will improve communication among participants, their colleagues, and clients. The course also builds key vocabulary: both common phrases used by patients and technical terms for symptoms, medical conditions, medical equipment and procedures, anatomy, treatments and more. Instructors will also provide assessment, instruction, and feedback on aspects of pronunciation which facilitate clear speech. Participants are encouraged to bring professional concerns and interests to class. |
