The MSocSc (Social Work) is a two-year full-time professional course in social work which also leads to the award of the National Qualification in Social Work. This is an Honours degree. The course consists of theory, practical work and a dissertation. The course is full-time and full attendance is required.
Students who do not complete the requirements of the Master’s programme satisfactorily, or who fail to do so within the time limits set, may be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Social Work. |
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. The standard for entry is at least a Second Class Honours Grade II in Social Policy and the equivalent of an overall Second Class Honours Grade II in the applicant’s primary (level 8) degree, or a GPA of at least 2.48 in a level 8 degree which contains Social Policy as a major or joint major subject. Alternatively, applicants must hold a primary degree together with a Second Class Honours (or GPA of 2.48 or above) in a postgraduate (level 8) Higher Diploma in Social Policy or equivalent. In exceptional circumstances, candidates with a lower grade plus a minimum of three years full-time work experience or equivalent, may be considered at the discretion of the School and the University. Candidates who have not previously studied Social Policy in depth will be required to take a programme such as the Higher Diploma in Social Policy course and pass at the required level before being allowed to apply for the MSocSc (Social Work) programme.
Current students in the final year of their degree or higher diploma programme may apply for the MSocSc (Social Work) programme. Places on the programme will be offered subject to the attainment of the required admission standard. Candidates must satisfy the examiners in each of the modules outlined in the syllabus and must attain a satisfactory standard in practical work. |
