Description:

Choosing the Arts Omnibus degree programme is an excellent opportunity to develop or begin a lifelong interest in your subject areas as well as gain important life and workplace skills. The BA degree programme at UCD is the most diverse in Ireland, offering more than 30 subjects and far greater flexibility in how you take these subjects than in any other programme. Many Arts students will select at least one unfamiliar subject to broaden their experience, ideas and education. There is a lot of choice in Stage 1 (your first year). You will generally study three or four subjects and you may take modules from outside the BA programme area – so you can, for example, develop or maintain an interest in science, business or in other languages. This is one of the great features of UCD Horizons.

After Stage 1, you will choose the subjects that you will take to degree level. You may take your degree in two subjects or concentrate in one subject with a minor concentration in another subject, or in some instances may choose to concentrate on one subject only. Throughout, you may take elective modules from across the university’s other degree programmes. Of course, while UCD Horizons offers you the possibilities of electives and greater flexibility than ever before, the traditional BA in which you take three subjects in Stage 1, followed by two subjects to degree level, is still available. Choice has been increased, nothing has been taken away. The subjects available through the Arts Omnibus entry (DN012) are available in the below links. Take time to find out as much as you can about topics that interest you. Please note that the subjects are timetabled in six groups, and that you can generally choose a maximum of one subject from any group. There is usually no difficulty in getting places on your chosen module, many offer hundreds of places. However, there is a small number of modules with more limited places and it is important to register as early as possible to secure a place on these. You may also study for the BA degree on a part-time basis during the day (CAO code: DN023). This offers the same range of subjects as the full-time degree but provides even greater flexibility. There is also an opportunity to pursue a degree in some subjects in the evening (CAO code: DN022).
