English literature is a doorway to many exciting worlds. On this course you will study a wide variety of poems, plays, and prose narratives, and their historical and cultural contexts - from Elizabethan England and Shakespeare's stage to the British Empire and the transatlantic slave trade. You'll also examine the eighteenth century gothic castle and the postcolonial spaces of Bombay, Johannesburg, Karachi, London and Toronto. Our course also introduces you to theoretical approaches, and develops your ability to write about, discuss and investigate English as a truly global literature. |
