Students will be trained to provide direct client care in Residential Care Facilities (RCF) for the aged. Individuals will learn to provide care to meet the various needs of elderly, challenging behaviours, and convalescents. This program consists of approximately 18 weeks of in-class instruction and 6 weeks of practicum placements. Work Experience practicum must be successfully completed in order to graduate. An interview may be required before accepting students for clinical experience. Students are required to provide their own transportation to clinical placements and work experience practicums. Shift work is an integral part of this occupation. Furthermore, physical demands include moving, lifting, and continued standing. |

Application, resume, and transcript of Grade 12 marks (or GED) must be received prior to the interview. Individuals interested in applying under the Mature Student policy must be a minimum of 21 years of age, be out of school for a minimum of 1 year and must provide high school transcripts demonstrating that a minimum of Grade 10 was completed. An interview and aptitude test must be completed before any acceptance into the program can be considered. It is a requirement for all students enrolled in this program to provide a clean Criminal Record Check and have a valid drivers license. |
