| Education is constantly changing. Due to the current demand integration for students with special needs there has been a need for support staff for teachers. The Teacher Assistant program is 35 weeks in duration, including both academic and practical work-term applications. The academic courses allow the student to become familiar with the development and needs of children, as well as be proficient in the skills necessary to feel competent assisting teachers while working with students with special needs in the classroom. The practical work-term applications help the student become adept at assisting teachers in the creation of learning centres, bulletin boards, games and activities, etc., appropriate to the age and skill level of the children involved. The 8-week work placement will allow these techniques to be applied in the classroom providing the opportunity for students to receive feedback on their efforts. This program is excellent for someone wishing to work with children in a school setting. |

A High School Diploma or GED is required for consideration, and a mandatory interview and aptitude test will be conducted. Students must produce a Criminal Records Check Certificate prior to admittance. Preference will be given to candidates with previous work experience or related academic training. |
