A student visa is needed to study in the UK. The sponsor for visa purposes is the educational institution where the student will study. The visa is issued for a particular course at the institution. The University will support an application for a student visa by issuing a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) once an offer has been confirmed.
If you have not previously studied in the UK, it is important to check the equivalence guidelines for your country using the search function on this page. This is to ensure the qualifications you hold are considered suitable preparation for entry onto your chosen course.
Please note the information given here is a guideline of the University's minimum academic requirements. Please refer to the Course Directory for the academic requirements for your specific course, as these may be higher than the University's minimum academic requirements. If you do not meet the academic requirement for your specific course you should check with your department to check whether they would still like to consider an application from you.
You must submit your application through the Applicant Portal. Once you have selected your course in the Course Directory, click the Apply Online button to be directed to the Applicant Portal.
We will need two academic references to support your application, and you can submit referee details via the Applicant Portal. Your referees will then receive an automated reference request. You should ensure you have their consent before you apply.
Most departments/faculties will want to interview you if your application is accepted to the next stage in the admissions process. Some scholarships and studentships will also invite shortlisted candidates for interviews. Most interviews will be conducted via video conferencing or telephone.
