Located in Ottawa, Ontario, The Audio Recording Academy (TARA) is a registered private vocational school offering a 30 week hands on course in audio recording with emphasis on music recording. The school operates in Raven Street Studios, an actual commercial recording studio boasting three studios with state of the art equipment.
At TARA, we realize that although a school diploma/certificate is important, most employers require experience. To help our students succeed in the job market, students work with professional musicians and other supporting staff, as well as assist session engineers in actual commercial recording sessions.
TARA specializes in teaching all aspects of the Music Industry in small classes with hands-on experience. Our Audio Recording Program is taught in real working recording studios, not lecture halls. We maintain small class sizes to maximize students’ familiarity with equipment, and focus on real life scenarios. We emphasize hands-on techniques and focus on a practical education.
TARA staff will aid out of town students in acquiring accommodation.
At the end of the course, TARA Grads will have completed their own Independent Study Project that can be used in their portfolio. Our program – Applied Audio Recording - has helped our grads find careers in:
Live sound - Radio - Theatre - Postproduction - Music publishing- TV- Concert productions- Composing- Jingle Productions
Students enjoy the benefits of going to school in Canada's capital, Ottawa, with the National Arts Centre, museums, and other national attractions.
Facilities are wheelchair friendly.
The school offers a multi facility recording complex with three studios. This state of the art facility was designed with particular attention paid to acoustics and focuses on audio technology details that make it 'musician friendly’.
