Shiatsu technique refers to the use of fingers and palms of one's hands to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body, and for maintaining and promoting health. It is also a method contributing to the healing of specific illnesses. The Shiatsupractor diploma program offered by the Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy is a 2,200 hour, full-time program with start dates in September, January, and June of each year. A part-time program is also available to allow students to continue working and further their education at the same time.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be eligible to apply to the Canadian Shiatsu Society of British Columbia for Shiatsupractor status, and will be eligible to apply to the International Shiatsu Association and the Japan Shiatsu Association for membership.
In order to appreciate Shiatsu philosophy and become an expert, a broad knowledge of Japanese culture and tradition is necessary. The Canadian College of Shiatsu Therapy proudly trains and educates students to the current Shiatsu standards as established by the Ministry of Health of Japan. Our courses include Shiatsu philosophy, theory, history, and the latest Shiatsu science. Our chairperson and several instructors are Japanese and follow Japanese traditional style. Our curriculum includes Japanese language and other Japanese therapies, such as Kampo medicine and Tsubo Shiatsu.
