Situated in Nelson, a city with a vibrant and inspiring arts community, Kootenay School of the Arts is dedicated to graduating students who can make a living through their professions in art, craft and design. In support of this goal, our curriculum emphasizes studio work and our faculty is made up of individuals who are, first and foremost, practicing artists and craftspeople.
KSA is an integral part of a diverse and vibrant community that values education and the arts, and is known for its natural beauty and many cultural and recreational opportunities.
Hands on studio work combined with the study of design, drawing, history, and professional practices leads to an in-depth understanding and refined ability to apply the essential elements for success.
Kootenay School of the Arts accepts a maximum of 12 first year students in each studio.
In April of 2004, KSA joined with Selkirk College (one of British Columbia’s top small rural colleges). Selkirk College serves the geographically large West Kootenay–Boundary region of the province while at the same time welcoming students from across Canada and around the world.
With this union into the public school system, KSA students have greater opportunity for transferability. More part-time opportunities will also be available.
