McKenzie College was founded in 1987 as one of the province's first schools dedicated to creative arts and technology. Our campus was the first school in Nova Scotia to offer digital media training, and continues to offer a unique range of programs.
At McKenzie College, we offer a range of training programs for students interested in photography, fine arts, music, videography, journalism and animation. Our online digital photography and journalism courses are unique programs of study designed to train those interested in commercial photography and careers in print media. Media arts explores a range of media disciplines with a particular emphasis on video and television production. Applied music technology combines music training with technical production and audio editing in a unique practical training environment.
Private apartments are available within walking distance of our downtown Sydney location. The registrar will be happy to assist you with obtaining living arrangements on an individual basis. Shared accommodations may be available.
New students are encouraged to visit our downtown Sydney campus and familiarize themselves with the school and local area. Morning registration and orientation sessions begin each program at 9 a.m. on the first listed day of the program.
All of our programs include career and entrepreneurial training as a module of the program. Students are prepared to take their skills from the classroom to industry with guidance in resume building, career application, and industry support from our experienced instructors. McKenzie College was the first institution in Eastern Canada to provide technical training in digital media and computer animation. Graduates of McKenzie College can be found across Canada in leading positions in creative media.
Students study in our modern music/MIDI/video labs and have access to our on-campus recording studio. Each student workstation is Pro Tools and MIDI or Final Cut capable. Students studying keyboarding and music theory use our on site keyboard lab. Student recording time is also facilitated at Sound Park Studio, an independent professional recording environment. Online digital photography students must have access to the Internet via a high speed Internet connection. Our dedicated course administration system leads them though their studies with the assistance of instructors available daily in online chat sessions. Qualifying students receive, as part of their program, a digital SLR to complete their program studies and assignments with. Students may qualify to keep the camera system at the end of their program.
Our downtown Sydney campus is located only blocks away from some of the areas major entertainment venues.
