If you're interested in pursuing a career or enhancing your knowledge in the fields of criminal, social justice and public safety, you've come to the right place. You can join over 30,000 students who enroll in our courses and programs, ranging from basic training to Masters programs, in partnership with other learning institutions.

You can choose to access our programs in the traditional classroom style, participate in our online programs, or take advantage of the programs we deliver in over 190 British Columbia communities each year. Whichever your preference, you will benefit from exposure to the most current standards of practice by interacting with instructors who are active leaders and practitioners in their respective fields.

Areas of Expertise

Our several academies and divisions reflect special areas of expertise, such as conflict resolution, corrections and community justice, court services operations, emergency management, emergency fire, paramedics, policing, and victim services.

The officially designated hotel of JIBC is the Inn at the Quay. The Inn At The Quay is the only hotel in Vancouver with water views from every guestroom. The hotel's all-new look glamorously intertwines South Beach style and divine comfort and sleek spa-worthy bathrooms. Its central location is just 30 minutes from the Vancouver International Airport, Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal, and Downtown Vancouver. There is easy access to the Boulevard and Starlight Casinos, shopping, theatres, as well as easy Skytrain access to Metrotown, Downtown Vancouver, Science World, and GM Place. Its 2-mile waterfront boardwalk is perfect for free time and its award-winning Boathouse Restaurant is ideal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The complimentary taxi service from the hotel to the JIBC's New Westminster Campus arrives at the JIBC at 8:30 am, and leaves the JIBC at 4:30 p.m. to return to the hotel. This service must be ordered the night before it is required.

Incoming Students

The main campus of the Justice Institute of BC, located in New Westminister, was designed by Vancouver architect Richard Henriquez. The distinctive building has a blend of curves and angles, bricks, high archways and skylights, allowing for ample natural light. A central garden and a large atrium that links offices, classrooms, cafeteria and library, serves as an airy central meeting place. There are several other campus locations, including Victoria, Maple Ridge, Chilliwack, Delta, Downtown Vancouver and Kelowna.

Sports

Although there are no competitive sports teams, the Institute offers a large gymnasium with two full-sized basketball courts, locker rooms, fitness room and an indoor firearms range.

Activities

Queen's Park, Glenbrook Ravine Park and Cariboo Park are several parks that are located near the Justice Institute. Each park offers beautiful views, walkways, and serene settings.

Information Technology

The Justice Institute of B.C. offers audio visual services, from equipment loans to the setting up or staging of presentations. Each main classroom has as standard equipment: a 27 inch television and VCR, overhead projector, projection screen and flipchart/whiteboard. Breakout rooms are outfitted with a 20 inch TV/VCR unit and whiteboard. Our theatre boasts a podium-installed Crestron control system , capable of controlling the lights, SVHS VCR, slide projector, Proxima LCD projector, as well our 10 foot motorized screen and installed podium and lavalier microphones. Photocopying is available in the library for a charge of 20 cents per page. Faxes may be sent from the library for a charge per page of $1 for local, $2 for long distance and $3 for international. Faxes may be received for a charge of $1 per page.

Cultural

There is a 200-seat theatre on campus, which is available to rent by the community.

Special Services

The campus is fully accessible, including curb approaches. There is elevator access to all floors and separate accessible washrooms located on each floor. Pay phones are wheelchair accessible. The Registration Services Advisor is located in the Registration office on the ground floor and can assist with a variety of classroom and study supports for students with disabilities, which may include sign language interpreters, captioning or other adaptive equipment or technology, computer screen viewing aids, notetakers, classroom and exam tutors and conversion of course materials to alternative formats. There is a Mother's Room located by the Theatre in the Women's washroom. Both men's and women's washrooms on the main floor have baby-changing tables. There is a First Nation Student Services advisor to support First Nations students.

International Involvement

The JIBC welcomes many visiting delegations each year. We have hosted delegations from China, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Japan and beyond.

The Justice Institute has achieved ISO 9001 registration for all programs and services. This means that a known quality assurance system has been implemented. This system consists of a series of standards that promote customer satisfaction and good business practices.
