Selkirk College is located in the West Kootenay region of the province of British Columbia, about halfway between Vancouver and Calgary. The West Kootenay region enjoys a moderate four season climate and is famous for its natural beauty. The natural environment of forests, mountains, lakes, and rivers provides many opportunities for recreation and adventure.
Selkirk College houses excellent programs in the discipline of Business, Engineering Technology, Creative Arts, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Building Design and Construction Technology, Manufacturing Technology and Skilled Trades, and Community Studies.

Local rental market provides many selections for students in Nelson and Castlegar.
An orientation is held at most campuses in September. New students can also access learning assistance, engage in a math/science tutor, or visit a writing lab to brush up on their English composition skills. Summer study and upgrade courses are always running for students wanting to take short study guide programs before regular classes begin.
Selkirk College has an excellent co-op work program, as well as employment recruiters and advisory boards arriving at the College year round to recruit employees. As an example, our Golf Club Management and Operations program places all students for a mandatory work term of four months within the golf industry. By graduation, students have over 500 jobs worldwide to choose from with many being recruited well before graduation time. Selkirk College follows through with continued support and job opportunities for all students.
The Athletics and Recreation department at Selkirk College provides a wide array of opportunities for students, staff, and the community to get active. Facilities include a full service gym, weight room, climbing cave, trail systems, and tennis courts. Offerings include recreational day trips, intramural leagues, varsity competition, drop-in sports, aerobics classes, and much more.
The College offers a gym with a weight room, squash courts, tennis courts, and walking/hiking trails.
The College clubs and associations include Environment and Outdoors Club, Business and Accounting Club, Students Association, Bouldering Club, X-Country Running Club, Canadian Information Processors Society, Film Society, Global Issues, Events Club, Selkirk Idol, and many more.

Selkirk houses a number of cultural facilities such as Mir Centre for Peace offering Aboriginal Studies, the Indigenous Gathering Place, and the International Department.
Selkirk College provides a special support counsellor for students with disabilities who can arrange for any special accommodations a student may require. Also, an Aboriginal support services counsellor is available to assist First Nation students with accessing post-secondary education. Additionally, parent support services are available to help student parents cope with the pressures of returning to school, as well as special bursaries available to help with child care or special transportation needs.
Selkirk College has articulation and transfer agreements with The University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, University of Alberta, and many more. We also maintain exchange or articulation agreements with colleges and universities in Mexico, Chile, Paris, France, Japan, China, and Vietnam. Selkirk College is always working to expand and enhance the learning opportunities for our students.
Since 1986, Selkirk College has welcomed international students from all over the world. The Renewable Resources and Applied Business Technology Departments are involved in development projects in Vietnam. Students in tourism programs are eligible to apply for practicum placements in Japan, while students in the nursing program gain valuable community nursing experience by volunteering to work at a clinic in Mexico.
