Since 1990, International House - Vancouver (formerly ILLC) has offered ESL classes in a friendly, personal atmosphere. We are a member of the prestigious International House World Organization and we offer a structured learning environment with experienced ESL instructors. Our classes are small, which provides a more intensive learning atmosphere for students who have the ambition to learn quickly. We are conveniently located just ten minutes from downtown Vancouver, and within walking distance from Kitsilano Beach and Granville Island. IH Vancouver is different from other schools. For students requiring accommodation, we offer homestay with Canadian families, an off-campus dormitory, or a student house. All include a private bedroom, access to laundry facilities, and all are located reasonably close to the school. Homestays include three meals per day. IH Vancouver is a proud member of the Canadian Association of Private Language Schools (CAPLS) and the Canadian Language Council (CLC).

IH Vancouver offers a full schedule of course options from Monday to Friday with a wide variety of General English, Test Preparation (TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge FCE, CAE, CPE, and BEC), and Elective courses available to choose from. Work Experience (i.e. Internship, Work and Study, Work and Travel, Farmstay), University Foundation Program, and Teacher Training programs are also available to qualified applicants.

Homestay - IH Vancouver offers homestay with Canadian families. Each student has his or her own private room, access to laundry facilities, and three meals per day. All of our homestays are located within a 30 minute commute to the school with the average commute being approximately 20 minutes. We do our best to match the student needs and requests with an appropriate host family to provide a safe, friendly environment for the student. Homestay Fee: $25.00 per night Dormitory - For students looking for an alternative to homestay, we offer an international atmosphere in our student dormitory. The IH dormitory is located approximately 15 minutes from the school by bus. It includes access to laundry facilities, kitchen, and a private room. Meals are not included. [Code: AD] Dormitory: $17.00 per night Two week minimum stay is required. Student Houses - Another alternative to homestay are the IH Student Houses. IH has several large, seven bedroom houses, which are centrally located, approximately 15 minutes from the school by bus and operates much like our dormitory with a more family like atmosphere. The houses are staffed by a Canadian caretaker and includes access to laundry facilities, kitchen, and a private or shared room options. Meals are not included. On the first day of classes, students will sit a placement test in the major language areas. Eight levels of General English, Test Preparation (TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge PET/FCE/CAE/BEC, and IELTS), and Business English course options are available. Orientation is offered after placement testing.

University placement assistance and continuing education counselling is available free of charge to all students registered at IH Vancouver. Official TOEFL, TOEIC, and Cambridge ESOL exams are offered in house.

A variety of other extra curricular sports clubs are held throughout the year. Basketball, baseball, beach volleyball, intramurals, as well as classes such as yoga, hip hop, boxercise, etc. are available for students to participate in.

Weekend excursions to destinations throughout British Columbia and Alberta are offered every weekend. Some examples are Rocky Mountains, Seattle, Victoria, Vancouver Island, Tofino, Whistler, camping, river rafting, and more.

Clubs at IH Vancouver include newspaper, basketball, snowboarding, softball, soccer, and movie club.

The IH Vancouver computer lab is free for use by students anytime and includes Internet access and e-mail. Currently, there are 40 computers available for student use. Free WIFI access is available in the school for students who bring their own laptops.

IH Vancouver's Activity Coordinator organizes excursions to participate in local festivals and events regularly.

IH Vancouver facilities are handicap equipped. There is no maximum age for acceptance and we frequently have mature students with us. IH Vancouver offers an open and accepting environment for students from all social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.

IH Vancouver provides students with conditional acceptance to Travel Tourism Institute (TTI), Premier College (Hotel Management), Arbutus College (Business Management), and BCIT upon completion of IH Vancouver prerequisite courses.

IH Vancouver offers internship placements to qualified international students.

With advance notice, campus tours are available anytime throughout the week.

The IH Vancouver Campus is located in a very safe and convenient part of Vancouver. The facilities include three student lounges, microwaves, outdoor patio areas, and independent study rooms. In addition, computers with Internet access, and video and audio equipment are all available free of charge for use by students of the school. Free counselling services are available to those students wishing to further their studies at other colleges or universities in North America. Students with valid work permits will receive free instruction on job finding and resume writing.
