Acadia University is one of Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate universities with a strong tradition of welcoming students from around the world. It was founded in 1863 and maintains a reputation for excellence. There are currently 3,800 students studying at Acadia University and over 14% are international from over 70 countries worldwide. Acadia University has been ranked the best overall primarily undergraduate university in Canada by Maclean's Magazine for the 10th consecutive year.

Areas of Expertise

The EAP (English for Academic Purposes) program is for students who would like to improve and practice their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills for academic study. Five different levels of EAP are offered from Beginner to Advanced. After completing the Advanced level, students are eligible to begin a degree program at Acadia University.

Acadia's homestay program places students in the homes of local residents. Students receive their own room and three meals each day. Homes are located on a bus route.

Incoming Students

New EAP students will join a program orientation during the first week of term. Students entering their first year of a degree program will be encouraged to join Frosh week and orientation. Each new degree student also has a first year adviser and academic adviser to assist them.

Career Planning

Whether you are exploring careers, looking for experience during your university years with part-time, summer, or on-campus positions, seeking full-time employment after graduation, or simply looking for assistance with your resume, cover letter, and interview preparation, the Career Service Centre can assist you!

Activities

During the academic year, there are many international events including the International Education Week, Refugee Awareness, and the International Student of the Year competition. The Acadia Student Union has several function rooms and a bar hosting live music, comedy, and other theme nights.

Clubs

This year, club funding has been increased substantially. Clubs are grouped into three categories. These are Co-Curricular, Social, and Athletic. Club activities range from the Spanish to Comedy to Martial Arts.

Information Technology

The Acadia Advantage is an academic initiative unique in Canada that integrates the use of notebook computers into the undergraduate curriculum. It is an exciting undertaking that enhances the University's teaching and learning environment. By participating in the Acadia Advantage, students will use today's technology to develop the advanced analytical skills they need to adapt to ever changing study and work environments.

Cultural

Art gallery and botanical gardens on campus. Plays and concerts are regularly held throughout the year. Lots of visiting guest speakers come to talk at Acadia.

Academic Advising and Student Resource Centre, Writing Centre, Math Centre, Counselling, and Health Centre.

International Involvement

The Wong International Centre supports international students in their academic, personal, and professional skill development. Through its programs and services, the centre assists in promoting cross cultural understanding and global citizenship throughout Acadia University and the surrounding communities and our global partners. The international centre provides information to students, staff, faculty, and the community. The centre provides engaged learning opportunities to the international students and Canadian students. The centre works with other departments, faculties, and community organizations to promote a global perspective and to enhance the international student experience at Acadia.
