Mount Allison is a primarily undergraduate liberal arts and science university with approximately 2,500 full-time students.The University has been ranked the top undergraduate university in Canada by Maclean's magazine 17 out of the past 23 years. Mount Allison is renowned for providing students with an enriching, diverse, and challenging educational experience.
Mount Allison offers a Master of Science program, with graduate degrees in biology, chemistry, and biochemistry. Specially approved graduate programs are also possible in other disciplines of Science. Graduate students at Mount Allison have access to a community of active scientific researchers who work to provide quality graduate programs.The program’s small size — there are usually about 15 graduate students at any given time — means you will work individually or in small groups with your supervisor. Your experience will focus on laboratory and field experience under the guidance of your supervisor. Full-time students usually complete the program in two-and-a-half years.Before formally applying to the Master of Science program, you are encouraged to contact individual faculty members regarding supervision and support.

Biology
The main areas of research activity are in field ecology, molecular ecology, animal physiology, microbiology, genetics, and developmental biology. Please visit the biology department website for more information regarding research facilities and for faculty contact information.
Chemistry and biochemistry
The main areas of research activity in chemistry are organometallic and main group chemistry; medicinal, bio-organic, and bio-inorganic chemistry; materials chemistry; surface chemistry; environmental chemistry; nuclear resonance spectroscopy; and green chemistry.
The biochemistry program offers research in environmental biochemistry, molecular biology, and metabolic biochemistry.

A Master of Science in other Science disciplines available for study at Mount Allison University may be offered on a case-by-case basis. Students interested in pursuing a specially approved Master’s program at Mount Allison should discuss this possibility with a potential supervisor from the departments or programs listed below prior to contacting the graduate studies committee to discuss such a program.

Each year Mount Allison hosts an array of displays, exhibitions, recitals, and performances that are open to both the public and campus community. Often these showcase our talented students and faculty, but many feature world-renowned experts and performers.
The Meighen Centre for Learning Assistance and Research offers support for students with diagnosed learning disabilities. Students may also access a number of resources through our student life office, including personal and career counselling, a campus nurse, student employment information, and academic support.
Mount Allison welcomes students from over 50 countries and our international student population is approximately 10%.
The University's study abroad and exchange program offers more than 24 programs in 17 countries, including semester-long, year-long, or short-term summer programs. Looking to go somewhere different? There are opportunities to customize your own study-abroad experience and to receive credit for experiential learning projects.
We encourage prospective students to visit our campus to truly appreciate what Mount Allison has to offer. We invite you to visit anytime throughout the year. However, we recommend you visit during the academic year (September to April) to experience the campus in its true setting. Your visit may include a meeting with an admissions counsellor, a campus tour, class observation, meetings with faculty members or athletics coaches, attending a class, and even staying overnight in residence.
