PROGRAMS Middle School (G7 – G8) High School (G9 – G12) Pre-University (G12) Advanced Placement (AP) TOEFL Preparation ESL (Youth and Adult Programs) Teacher Training Program Summer Camp Middle School - Columbia offers Grades 7 and 8 to students who have completed Grade 6 in their home country. Our younger students live in a designated wing and floor and they are cared for by a Live-in Senior Advisor who has their quarters on the same floor/wing. Our younger students are enrolled in an age-appropriate extracurricular and weekend program known as Routine for Success which qualifies them for the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award. Through the Routine for Success program, students are equipped with the necessary life skills and also have a chance to participate in activities and trips which enhances their entire well-being. High School - Students who have completed Grade 8 in their home country can join our High School Program and complete Grades 9 to 12. Columbia provides an ESL program as part of the High School Curriculum. Therefore students with some English proficiency can take ESL Courses simultaneously with Academic High School Courses. Students receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) upon successful completion of the High School Program. Pre-University - This program is available to students who have completed Grade 11 or students who would like to improve their grades and enter Canadian, American, British or Australian universities. Students may complete their Pre-U or Grade 12 credits in as little as seven months. The 7-month Pre-U program is offered in January and June. It allows students to earn 6 Grade 12/ Pre-U credits. The 10-month Pre-U program is offered in August and allows students to earn up to 8 credits. Columbia offers Advanced Placement (AP) classes and TOEFL preparation courses for our Pre-U students. Junior ESL - The ESL (English as a Second Language) Program is designed for students who did not learn English as a first language and would like to study and improve their English. There are 5 ESL levels ranging from Beginners (ESLAO) to Advanced (ESLEO). These ESL credits counts toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students have opportunities to focus on developing their Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening skills and improve their Vocabulary, Comprehension, Conversation and Pronunciation skills. Learning opportunities exist in and out of the classroom for students to practice and perfect their English skills. Summer Camp - Columbia’s Summer Camp Programs provide students with opportunities to learn English in class as well as on cultural trips to various parts of Ontario and Canada. Students experience the multicultural atmosphere in Toronto, explore the beautiful ruggedness of Ontario’s northern wilderness and discover the beautiful sights and sounds of Eastern Canada. Three or four week all-inclusive summer camp programs are offered in July and August.

Certified Healthy Eating Practices * Five on-site cafeterias are professionally managed by world-renowned Sodexo Food Services. * Columbia’s cafeterias and Sodexo Food Services are certified by the Government of Ontario’s Eat Smart! School Program. This ensures that our students receive balanced and nutritious meals with healthy choices. * Choice of Eastern and Western cuisine during mealtimes * Choice of Eastern and Western hot entrée during mealtimes. During lunch, additional choices of freshly prepared pizza, sushi and sandwiches are available. * Students are served up to four meals per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner and night snack) * Special Meals menu is designed by a qualified dietitian on staff * Special Meals are provided to vegetarian students or students with religious or special dietary needs. * Special Meals are provided to sick students.

VARIED CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES DEVELOP LEADERSHIP SKILLS * Columbia’s leadership programs teach students goal-setting, decision-making, communication skills and many more. * Columbia’s Bark Lake Leadership Training Centre occupies 700 acres and provides field training in leadership and outdoor education. MODERN NETWORKS ALLOW FOR MAXIMUM COMMUNICATION * Students have internet access at both school and in the residence to enable them to keep in contact with family and friends. * Students have a personal telephone extension and voicemail system in their rooms for friends and family to contact and leave them private messages. * Multilingual liaison staff are available to help parents communicate with other staff or departments in school and residence. * Our dedicated and experienced support staff made up of the guidance counsellors, liaison officers, and residence staff work together to keep parents constantly informed of their child’s progress in school and residence. * Columbia’s online ezReport card is designed to conveniently inform parents about their child’s: Personal Success Plan – the student’s course load and their duration of study. Special Services

Academic Support Program (ASP) Teachers identify students who require academic support within the first two weeks of classes. ASP is offered during school hours, after-school and in the residences in the evening.
