Luther College High School in Regina, Saskatchewan, challenges students to grow intellectually, spiritually, and socially. The College has earned a reputation for academic excellence over its 93 year history. Dedicated faculty members known for their teaching excellence and warmth encourage students to explore their scholastic potential in and out of the classroom. The fact that over 90% of Luther graduates begin studies at post-secondary institutions within in a year of graduation is a testament to the College’s academic strength. Spiritual and social growth occurs during the normal course of the day at Luther. The College’s small size creates a caring environment where students are safe and supported as they investigate new ideas and pursue new interests. Daily Chapel times and mandatory Christian ethics courses encourage students to explore questions of faith and examine their own roles in society. A rich diversity of students from around the world and numerous co-curricular activities help students learn how to work together and develop their skills as global citizens.

Areas of Expertise

Luther College High School offers a well rounded educational program for secondary students. It follows the curriculum established by the government of Saskatchewan, but also offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate diploma program, Canada’s first high school film and video program, an award winning choral music program, and a first year university course.

Luther College High School has both a girl’s and boy's dorm. A Dean and four Dean’s Assistants are available to assist residents in each dorm. Resident students eat all of their meals in the Luther College cafeteria. Spaces in residence are available on a first come, first served basis. Apply early!

Career Planning

Student Services provides guidance and career counselling for all Luther students. The friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you explore the opportunities available after you graduate. They conduct interest and aptitude testing, provide information about post-secondary institutions, scholarships, exchanges, work programs and volunteer opportunities, and organize an annual career day.

Sports

Luther College High School’s student body is divided into four houses or teams. Members of each team have the opportunity to earn points for their house by participating in a variety of co-ed intramural sports. The student run intramural committee determines which sports are played each year. In the last few years, students have enjoyed basketball, field hockey, soccer, and touch football. Games are played during the school day over lunch hour. Luther College is a member of the Regina High School Athletic Association. As such, its sports teams compete with other high school teams from the Regina area. Luther fields women’s teams in volleyball, soccer, basketball, curling, and badminton. It fields men’s teams in football, soccer, basketball, curling, and badminton. Luther also has a cheerleading team and co-ed cross country running, hockey, and track and field team. There are many opportunities to participate in athletics at Luther. The College has both junior and senior teams in many sports.

Activities

There is a wide range of activities available at Luther. Students with an interest in the fine arts can participate in the annual broadway musical, sing in one of the College’s two choirs, join the improv team, or play in the handbell choir or school orchestra. Other College activities include the Student Representative Council, yearbook committee, the school newspaper staff, peer group, the chess team, the debate society, and the organizing committees for Western Canada’s oldest high school basketball tournament, the Luther Invitational Tournament.

Clubs

A socially conscious campus, Luther has a number of active clubs. Students against Drinking and Driving (SADD), Youth for a Living Earth (YFLE), Amnesty International, and the Christian Club are a few examples. The clubs, like the other sports and activities offered at Luther, receive the support of the College’s faculty. Each has its own teacher supervisor.

Information Technology

A computer lab with access to the Internet and e-mail is located on campus. Computers are also available in the school library. All residence rooms are wired for the Internet as well.

Affiliated Institutions

Luther College High School is affiliated with Luther College at the University of Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan. Luther College at the University of Regina offers a broad general education in the liberal arts and sciences in a small, personalized environment.
