Profile

Housed in an historic mansion in the heart of old Oakville, MacLachlan College provides a superior, university bound education for 370 co-ed students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Small class sizes, a friendly atmosphere, and personal attention from highly qualified teachers constitutes the right ingredients for MacLachlan students to find a place to belong and grow in confidence and self esteem. Each year, MacLachlan College accepts approximately 35 international students, about 10% of our overall student population. Traditionally, students in the past have come from Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Venezuela, and the Middle East.

Off Campus Housing

We do not have boarding, but we do have a homestay program available. We will place students in homes near the school with a Canadian family. The essence of the homestay is to provide a safe and caring home. The family will act on behalf of the student's international family and will provide the student with support and see to the general welfare of the student, including meals, health, and safety.

Sports

Sports and physical education activities play a central role at MacLachlan. All sports activities from Kindergarten to Grade 12 are conducted by a qualified teacher who is a specialist in physical education. Our fully equipped gymnasium is in constant use for games and activities such as basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, badminton, archery, gymnastics, wrestling, and weight lifting. Our outdoor facilities include volleyball, basketball, handball, tetherball courts, and a running track. Our playing field and off campus facilities are utilized for soccer, baseball, track and field, skiing, rowing activities, field lacrosse, touch football, cycling, cricket, field hockey, etc.

Information Technology

In 1993, the federal government made a commitment to provide funds to equip classrooms with computers and Internet access with the goal to make every Canadian student prepared for the knowledge society, computer savvy, and smart. The year marked the onset of the computer era in schools. Starting in 1989, MacLachlan College had already made an investment in computer labs and computers in the classroom, and very quickly became a leader in information technology in the classroom. Strategies of using computers and teaching information technology have been hotly debated amongst educators. At MacLachlan, we have listened carefully and paid full attention to the dialogue and controversy, which accompanies this exciting development in the history of education.
