Founded by the Lutheran Church in 1830, Capitol University offers undergraduate, graduate and professional programs of study to students. The school's main campus is located in Bexley, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. Columbus is about 400 km south of Detroit, Michigan, and Windsor, Ontario.

Students must attend a summer orientation session where students to meet faculty and staff, schedule classes, get an ID and are able to obtain information about the school and the coming year. Students also attend a fall orientation where they are paired up with other new students and upperclassmen guides. Social events are held to help form friendships and get familiar with the school.
