Conrad Grebel University College is a residence and a liberal arts college affiliated with the University of Waterloo. Students who live and study at Conrad Grebel need to be enrolled at the University of Waterloo. Our friendly residence houses 142 students and includes an active community life with a variety of activities including sports, chapel, choir, and other student council activities.
Our academic program is comprised of the Music Department at the University of Waterloo and Peace and Conflict Studies. A variety of other liberal arts courses (religious studies, history, English, and sociology) are taught by our faculty. Conrad Grebel also offers its own Master of Theological Studies degree in conjunction with the University of Waterloo.
Our residence program emphasizes living as a supportive community. This includes chapel for those who choose it. Mennonite students make up 50 per cent of our population. Music, peace and conflict studies, Mennonite history, and theology are our specialties. We offer a Master of Theological Studies degree.
Conrad Grebel students can participate in University of Waterloo intercollegiate teams or in the intramural co-rec program.
Chapel services are held regularly throughout the year on Wednesday afternoons and periodically on Sunday evenings. We also have retreats, ski trips, dances, and other activities organized by the student council. There is a lounge with a TV, fridge, VCR, and DVD player on each floor. You can sign up to watch your favourite shows or to reserve the DVD player for a movie night. Finally, in our game room, you can play foozeball, air hockey and pool in the games room, or just sit around and visit on the comfy couches.
Students of Conrad Grebel can join the yearbook and the peace society. We also have other clubs relating to athletics.
All rooms have UW ResNet access and individual phones.
While each floor in the Grebel residence can be accessed by an elevator, the washroom facilities in the Grebel residences are not wheelchair accessible. Students who live in the residence are required to participate in the meal plan, but special diets are taken into consideration. The Grebel apartments are air conditioned for students with environmental sensitivities and are appropriate for students with restricted diets; however, priority is given to students who have lived in the Grebel residence for a minimum of three terms. All classrooms are also wheelchair accessible and so is the washroom in the Academic Building.
Conrad Grebel University College is affiliated with Project Ploughshares, the Network for Conflict Resolution, and the Centre for Family Business.
