D’Youville University, chartered by New York State in 1908, is located in Buffalo, New York, a city just across the border from Fort Erie, Ontario, and is about 150 kilometres away from Toronto, Ontario.
The school was named after a Canadian woman from Montreal named Marguerite d'Youville who was dedicated to helping the poor and less fortunate in the 18th century. This philosophy of betterment of society informs the education that students receive at the College.
The University offers many professional and liberal arts programs. They have a strong tradition of establishing agreements where Canadian transfer students can complete advanced studies and graduate degrees at D'Youville.
There are two options for living on-campus at D'Youville. The first is available for all students and is a traditional residence hall. The second is comprised of studio and 4-bedroom apartments, and is available for those students who are at junior status or above, or 21 years of age. Part-time housing for students is also available.
Orientation is held for new students and new students can subscribe to a new students newsletter.
Besides having a Career Services Center, the University also has a Web resource to help students find career information.
There are both varsity and intramural sporting events to become involved in at the University.
Activities to participate in at the University include clubs and multicultural events put on by the Multicultural Affairs Office. The Student Association also organizes events and activities. Events include Black History Month, Halloween Monster Mash, and a Psychic Fair.
There are over 30 clubs to be involved in at the University.
D'Youville University is a wired campus, where students can log in to the school's network in the school's classrooms and dorms. Dial up and VPN access is also provided. Students are provided with an e-mail account. There are two computer labs on campus.
The Multicultural Affairs Office organizes workshops, cultural and social events, and networking opportunities.
