École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC), the first university-level business school to open in Canada, in 1907, is a world-class educational institution. It offers 24 management programs at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels. Its students come from about 50 countries and depending on their course of study, may choose to spend several months at one of the 55 highly regarded establishments with which the School has student exchange agreements. HEC has 175 career professors who provide multidisciplinary instruction adapted to the needs of the business community.

HEC Montréal is a French-language institution solidly rooted in its community and open to the world. It is an international-calibre university business school that contributes to our society’s prosperity by providing leadership in all its spheres of activity, i.e. teaching at all levels, research and serving the community.

Areas of Expertise

HEC faculty conducts research on subjects as varied as organizational change, the latest accounting techniques, technology management, market trends and the human dimensions of organizations, taking into consideration the social, economic and political context of the public and private sectors. Individually or in teams, faculty members pursue research in their own areas of specialization within nine teaching departments, five chairs and twenty research groups.

Incoming Students

The official welcome cocktail party and orientation are mandatory for incoming students. All students are expected at HEC Montréal for the orientation on August 22, 2019.

Career Planning

HEC is home to a variety of resources including Canada’s largest bilingual business library and a trading room with real-time financial data from Bloomberg and Reuters. We are considered a leader in research thanks to some 50 research chairs, centres and groups. Our international exchange program includes 133 partner institutions in 40 countries, offering a wide range of career-prep experiences. HEC has a strong and influential business network, with tens of thousands of alumni around the globe and a highly efficient Career Management Service, available lifelong for alumni.

Clubs

More than 20 associations and clubs enhance student life by organizing a wide variety of educational, social and sports activities that give students a chance to apply their personal and professional skills. Associations at HEC include the Business Relations Society, the Masters Consulting Group and the International Association for Students of Economics and Commerce (AIESEC). Popular activities include stock-market simulations, career days, business-related competitions, foreign trade missions, consulting services for businesses and activities to help international students feel at home.

Information Technology

HEC is one of the first university institutions to revolutionize its teaching methods by integrating technology into teaching. B.B.A. and M.B.A. students make intensive use of laptop computers through the Virtuose program, which seeks to develop in them the technological skills needed by today's managers. Every classroom is linked to the computer network and most of them are equipped with connections for students' laptop computers; 3,500 network connections are scattered throughout the classrooms, library, workrooms and common areas to enable the use of laptop computers. Multimedia teaching, electronic overhead presentations, file transfers, access to Internet and to various libraries and databases are part of students' daily lives. The Myriam and J.-Robert Ouimet Library holds one of the world's largest collections of business publications, with 325,000 documents and numerous data bases. It is open to the general public and serves over 14,000 people every week.

Cultural

HEC offers a wide variety of cultural activities, ranging from theatre workshops to photography competitions and the rich line-up from Ciné-campus. Film screenings, a student radio station and theatre are just a few examples of the cultural life at HEC.

International Involvement

More than 50 prestigious establishments are involved in the international exchange program, including the London School of Economics, ISA/Paris, ESADE/Barcelona and Monterrey/Mexico City. It is managed by HEC's Student Services. Corporate scholarships are available for this program. Almost 200 students enroll each year.

Other

Superior communication: a program of French and English language courses and workshops. A day-care centre is available for the children of HEC students and staff.
