Areas of Expertise

Glendon differs from all other university faculties in Canada by offering its liberal arts education within the context of two languages and cultures, English and French. Moreover, unlike any other liberal arts institution, Glendon offers an integral bilingual experience: all students actually study in both languages. Glendon distinguishes itself further thanks to its strong public affairs focus, small classes, and high levels of interaction between students and professors.

Glendon graduates can be found in every public affairs domain. They often play prominent roles in government (at the federal, provincial, or municipal level), in international affairs, the judiciary, the mass media, communications, the arts, industry, finance, business, and education. They are active locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Incoming Students

Expect a warm welcome when you arrive: our school year begins with a week of orientation activities to help you settle in and set the tone for life on campus. Orientation is a balanced mix of helpful factual information, a chance to get acquainted with the campus and other students, and many social activities taking you around campus, the city of Toronto, and surrounding areas.

Note: Fall/Winter 2021-2022 services may be modified due to COVID-19.

Career Planning

The Career and Skills Development Centre, located in York Hall A118, focuses on career exploration, skills development and experiential education. You can get personalized academic and career help by booking an appointment via Moodle or by attending a workshop in the Centre or in residence.

Sports

Known around here as the GAC, this is our top-rate athletic centre and formerly the home practice gym of the Toronto Raptors NBA team. The centre includes a full-size indoor swimming pool and gymnasium, a fully equipped cardiovascular and weight room, an indoor golf driving range, international squash courts, outdoor tennis courts, a soccer field and a baseball diamond. There is also a full range of instructional, group exercise, and aquatics programs to choose from.

Activities

As a Glendon student, you have access to all of York University's sports facilities, recreational programs, and free admission to the York Lions football team's regular season home games. You can participate in York varsity sports, and compete in Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and U Sports in more than a dozen sports, including basketball, ice and field hockey, swimming, and track and field. There are also many fitness and sports classes to choose from, as well as intramural sports clubs, tournaments, and special events on the Keele Campus.

Clubs

Glendon's student-run clubs promote many academic, cultural, and linguistic themes. Do you have an idea for starting a new one? You have the opportunity to get it off the ground! Watch for annual social traditions like the Snowball Formal and the Winter Carnival too.

Learn about the many other student clubs and activities at our campus open houses and during the clubs fair each September.

Information Technology

Glendon offers leading-edge technologies to enrich your educational experience including an intranet web portal, real-time webpage updates, online forums, course enhancements through multi-media innovations, electronic message boards, and more.

You have access to workstations in several computer labs staffed with technical support and a full range of state-of-the-art equipment. High-speed Internet access and lab software are available in all residence rooms as well.

Cultural

While there's a distinct difference between the Liberal Arts (think social sciences and humanities) and the Fine Arts (think music, painting, acting), Glendon nonetheless has a lively and active arts scene.

Whether you're interested in showcasing your talents at student-run Lunik Co-op Café's Café Chantant (which means Coffee House), getting your inner music nerd on with the Glendon Musical Ensemble, or flexing your acting muscles with Lionheart Productions, our student-run theatre production company, Glendon's art scene is far from lacking.

Special Services

The Glendon Accessibility, Well-Being, and Counselling Centre has a comprehensive support program for students with disabilities which includes individual consultations with a Accessibility Counsellor, a peer tutoring program for help with learning strategies, and adaptive technology.
