The Marine Institute is Canada’s leading centre of fisheries and marine training, and is part of Memorial University of Newfoundland. We offer bachelor's and master's degrees, one-year advanced diplomas, two-year and three-year diplomas, certificates, and vocational programs.
The Marine Institute provides more than 20 industry-driven programs ranging from technical certificates to master’s degrees. In addition to undergraduate and graduate degrees, the Institute offers advanced diplomas, diplomas of technology and technical certificates. Students enjoy a learning environment where small class sizes are the rule, hands on instruction is a way of life and competitive tuition rates put an internationally-recognized education well within reach.

Students studying at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University can choose to live on the Memorial University campus. MUN on-campus residence is located approximately 2.5 km from the Marine Institute campus. Students can also choose to live off-campus. There are areas within walking distance to the Marine Institute that have rental accommodations. While studying at the Marine Institute, be sure to take advantage of our large, well-equipped gymnasium. It includes exercise rooms, a weight room, and is equipped with change and shower rooms. You may also want to take advantage of a variety of intramural and recreational programs in softball, floor hockey, basketball and volleyball. Individual and group bookings for recreational activities may be made through the Recreation Director's office, Room E2054. As a Marine Institute student, you’ll also have access to the largest recreation facility in the province. The Marine Institute provides computer laboratories to be used for instruction, course work and assignments. These facilities are fully networked and permit students to operate all software applications required for their course work. These rooms are available during normal working hours when classes are not in progress as well as at scheduled times after-hours. Printing and plotting is provided on a fee per page basis, funds are transferred to the printing software using the Smart Card system.
The Marine Institute offers testing and classroom accommodations to students with disabilities in accordance with Memorial University's Accessibility for Students with Disabilities policy. Students should discuss their needs with Student Affairs staff before the start of term so accommodations can be put in place before classes begin. Appropriate documentation if required.
The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MI) is a world-class centre for marine and ocean-related career education and research. The main campus of MI overlooks the city of St. John’s from within Pippy Park; the Institute houses a flume tank, food processing pilot plant, freshwater aquaculture facilities, and world-class marine simulation facilities. We offer tours from 9am – 4pm on Monday to Friday; tours are not available on weekends or Statutory/University holidays.
