Established in 1926, St. Paul's is a Roman Catholic College on the campus of the University of Manitoba and is affiliated with the University. Membership in St. Paul's College is open to those of any religious background who endorse the College's Statement of Mission and Ethos. At St. Paul's, we value each person, the community, social justice, the search for truth by faith and reason and ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue.
St. Paul's offers educational programs of the highest possible quality with a particular emphasis on programs and courses in Catholic thought and philosophy.
Research indicates that even one half-hour of orientation makes a difference in terms of G.P.A. results, therefore all new students are strongly urged to attend the St. Paul's College Orientation sessions. Dates for the Fall Orientation sessions will be announced at a later date. All students should also attend an Information Session provided by their faculty.
The St. Paul's College Students' Association is made up of all students pursuing any program of study at the University who have registered as a member of St. Paul's. The Association is managed by a Student Council elected by the student body.
The Student Council arranges for the registration of intramural teams in a variety of sports offered by the U of M Intramural Sports Department. In the first weeks of September, there will be a sign up sheet for all first term and full year teams. If enough people register for a College team, the Student Council will submit the names to the organizers and pay the default fees. The advantage of playing with the College teams is that the fees are paid by the Student Council and you play with people you know. All you have to do is turn up when the games are scheduled. In past years, the College has fielded teams in men's hockey, women's hockey, women's volleyball, co-ed volleyball, co-ed basketball, men's soccer, men's indoor soccer, ultimate frisbee, and flag football. Anything that is offered by the Intramural Sports Department will have a College team if there are sufficient numbers interested. As well, the Council organizes several tournaments such as Bingo Bowling, a Table Tennis Tourney, a Spring Break trip (tentative), and a Grey Cup party. Watch the sports board in the cafeteria for details!
The Student Council generally organizes some form of social activity whenever memories fade from the last one. Events have included an opening First Year Bash, a Halloween Social, Grey Cup party, a Grad celebration in March, and a closing BBQ. The Student Council is always looking for more ideas. If you have any ideas or would like to help organize some events, please contact the Social Director in the Council Office. All students and faculty of the University are welcome to attend social events at St. Paul's, so bring your friends along! Watch for posters or contact any council member for more information.
The Paulinian is the St. Paul's College student newspaper. It's a place for one to communicate personal opinions or express creative interests, whether it be poems, stories, cartoons, photography, or whatever; we print just about anything! The Paulinian is a paper for the students; the staff consists entirely of students. The Paulinian comes out roughly once a month with a circulation of about 200. If you are interested in getting involved, you can find members of our beloved staff in the Paulinian Office (Room 226) or in the Student Council Office (Room 160). Contact the editor at (204) 474-9262 for more information.
At St. Paul's College, you will find a community of students who share a smaller and more personal environment within the larger university campus. Formal and informal opportunities are provided through this community to explore and experience our Christian and Catholic faith. Working in conjunction with the Chaplains, the students can become involved in a variety of activities, both at St. Paul's and in the wider community. You are welcome to drop by and see what interests you. Watch for posters of upcoming events posted throughout the College and campus.
