While the Bishop's College School curriculum is recognized and accredited by the Ministry of Education of the Province of Quebec, BCS retains independent control of academic standards and enrolment policies. As a result, students of any mother tongue may apply for admission without requiring a "Certificate of Eligibility" from the Province of Quebec.
Admission to all grade levels is determined by an evaluation of relevant information concerning the applicant's scholastic background, in addition to the academic potential of the prospective student, his or her character, interests and athletic and leadership qualities. The final decision is based on scholastic records, placement tests in Math and English (and French when applicable), confidential references, teacher's reports and a personal interview. International students are required to meet the same general admissions requirements.
Students wishing to apply for the Grade 12 year must have a minimum average of 70% in their previous academic year and an advanced level of English.
In order to provide close personal attention, our total registration is limited so an early application is recommended. Our application deadline date is April 1. International students require a Quebec and Canadian visa before arriving for the beginning of school in September.
In addition to a completed application form, please provide confidential reports from the applicant's current school as well as Math, Science and French (if applicable) Teacher's Reports and copies of the final report card from the previous year and the most recent report card from the current year. When the completed application has been submitted to the Admissions Office, arrange an appointment for a personal interview with the Director of Admissions.
There is a $100.00 Non-Refundable Application Fee.
Applicants for Form II and III (Grade 7 and 8) will write Entrance Tests at BCS.
Applicants for Form IV and VII (Grade 9 to 12) will submit SSAT scores.
Information on Testing dates and centres can be found at www.ssat.org or may be provided by the Admissions Office.
Applicants whose first language is not English require an official language test score, either SLEP (Secondary Level English Proficiency) or TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language).
